ORIGIN

The scientific name of mint is Mentha and it belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It originates from East Asia and Europe.

It is mentioned in the Bible as it was sold mainly by the Hebrews. The Greeks, for their part, used it to embalm temples because of its pleasant and strong scent. In Ancient Rome, it was used in wine to freshen the breath and only men could use it. In the Middle Ages, mint was used to season food and for therapeutic purposes.

Nowadays, mint is popular all over the world and is used in many different types of cuisine.

HOW TO USE IT WHEN COOKING

Mint, whether fresh or dried, is very popular in Moroccan cuisine, but also in Britain.

It is used in both sweet and savoury recipes and is, of course, not limited to its use in green tea. Mint adds great flavour to meat such as mutton and lamb, vegetables, salads and tabbouleh. It goes very well with strawberry in desserts.

Tip: Mint wakes you up. So don’t eat it in the evening because it could cause insomnia.
